On November 11, 2017, we, Bright Futures Learning Academy staff participated in the Long Beach Veterans Day Parade as one of the many local vendors in town. We had several arts and crafts activities set up for the children and had absolute pure fun during the event. The children were enthusiastic and engaged in the activities, as they chose to create their own American themed hats, Veterans Day wreathes, and hand-print American flags.
The event also involved the community grand reopening of the newly renovated Huey Helicopter in Houghton Park. This project was dedicated to the 103 Long Beach veterans who served in the Vietnam War. The 9th District Council Members, including Vice Mayor Rex Richardson and of course, Mayor Robert Garcia, were in attendance. The streets were crowded with people showing their appreciation for the veterans and supporting the local businesses.
The best thing about being a part of the event was that the fees paid to the City of Long Beach Recreational Parks, would be donated to fund the needs of our veterans. We hope that the elected officials will manage and allocate the funds properly, to really improve the lives of our veterans.
